Dr Promodini Varma is an outstanding academic, teacher and educationist who worked for over 45 years at Delhi University and is now associated with the SAARC-established South Asian University at New Delhi, where she offers courses in South Asian literature. She has done pioneering work in English Language Teaching and Testing at both, the school level and the undergraduate level. She has been an institution builder and a guiding light to many in her field. She is now deeply interested in the South Asian short story and South Asian cinema and is now researching in this area. She translates from English to Hindi and from Hindi to English and is currently engaged in translating Samuel Becket’s shorter plays into Hindi.
She has been appointed as the Vice-President of EFSLE (Ecosophical Foundation for the Study of Literature and Environment), New Delhi in 2019.
