Ishrat Bashir is an Assistant Professor in the department. She joined the department in May 2012 after serving as Assistant Professor in the South Campus of University of Kashmir for a brief period. She has been teaching Contemporary Literary Theory, Short Story and the British Drama in the Department. Ishrat did her M.A in English from the University of Kashmir in 2008, and qualified NET in 2009. She was appointed Lecturer in April 2010 in the Department of School Education. In October 2010 she was appointed Assistant Professor in Department of Higher Education. In September 2011, she joined the South Campus of the University of Kashmir as Assistant Professor in English. Currently she is pursuing her PhD on the Lebanese Novelist Elias Khoury at the Department of English, Maulana Azad National Urdu University on part-time basis. Her interests include fiction, poetry, literary theory and translation studies.
She is a lifetime member of EFSLE and she served as the first Joint Secretary for its Kashmir Region till 2021. Now she is one of the Coordinators of the region.
