Dr Gourhari Behera is Professor in the Dept of English, Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur. He has been working in the University since 1998. Dr. Behera completed his primary, secondary and undergraduate education in the holy town of Puri, Odisha and Post graduation and M.Phil from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
Subsequently he taught in a Govt Degree College in Himachal Pradesh and Jamia Millia Islamia before joining DDU Gorakhpur University as a lecturer in 1998. He completed his PhD from DDU, Gorakhpur University and was promoted to the post of Professor in 2014. Dr. Behera specializes in Literary Criticism and Theory, Postcolonial Literatures and Disability Studies. He has published several research papers in reputed national and international journals and has authored books like Contemporary Indian literary Criticism in English: Alternative Frameworks, Representation and Resistance: Essays in Postcolonial Theatre and Drama, Literatures of South Asia. He has supervised 10 Phd scholars and has examined a number of PhD theses from reputed Indian universities. He has delivered many lectures in seminars, conferences, orientation and refresher courses in many institutions of repute.
Dr. Behera has also been involved in various administrative works of the university. He has been one of the founding members of the IQAC, Assistant DSW for many years, chairpersons of various sports events etc. He has been an ardent lover of Indian classical and semi classical music. His recent research interest includes disability studies, science fiction and history of various foods in India. He is also a lifetime member of EFSLE and one of the Executive Council Members (ECM) of its Uttar Pradesh- East Region.
