Dr. R. Sheela Banu is an Associate Professor teaching English at Government Arts College (Autonomous), Salem-7, Tamil Nadu. She has 20 years experience in teaching. Besides teaching, she is a creative writer and critic. She is an editorial member of the UGC Approved Literary Journal Rock Pebbles. She is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Nigeria based online journal International Journal of English Literature and Culture.
On January 26, 2018, Dr. R. Sheela Banu was honoured with the prestigious Bharat Ratna Mother Teresa Gold Medal Award by the Global Economic Progress and Research Association (GEPRA) for her meritorious contribution to teaching and research. In October 2015, she was conferred the Award of Invaluable Contribution to Serve Education by the Jabalpur Management Association (JMA) and South Asian Management Association (SAMA).The same year in June, she bagged the prestigious Rock Pebbles National Literary Award for her creative writings and translations. In September 2013, she received the Best Paper Award for her research paper entitled “Patriarchal Domination and Female Resistance in Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God” presented in the International Conference on Women Empowerment in Kanyakumari. She has given speeches in the All India Radio. She is one of the Coordinators of EFSLE from Tamil Nadu Region.
