Swagata Chowdhury is a research scholar who is an environmentalist by heart. She belongs to the little town named Bolpur-Santiniketan. Serene natural beauty of her place instills in her the love of nature. Her Alma matter is Visva-Bharati where she completed her graduation and post- graduation in English Literature and is presently pursuing her doctoral research on Ecofeminism and Victorian literature. She is also awarded the UGC NET Lectureship with JRF. She feels that her study of ecofeminism, ecocriticism and above all ecological consciousness for her doctoral thesis has positively influenced her own self as these schools of thought demand humanity in human beings with sense of compassion, responsibility, bonding and sincere concerns for earth and its living beings. Her other areas of research interest include post-colonial literature, gender issues, literature and humanity etc. She has heartfelt love for music. She is a trained Rabindra-sangeet singer and always finds solace in the songs of Rabindranath Tagore. She loves travelling to explore nature and its wilderness. She loves to read books especially fictions, travelogues and short stories.
She is a lifetime member of EFSLE and also she has been appointed as one of the Executive Council Members (ECM) of its West Bengal- South Region.
